Week 3 BOC: Beech Nut

The company was founded in 1891, to the town of Mohawk Valley.. Along with his friend John Zieley and their brothers founded The Imperial Packing Co. with the production of Beech-Nut ham. The product was founded on the smoked hams of their father, a farmer. The company's principal products were ham and bacon for the first years they started. David and John Zieley sold their shares.
The company was incorporated as the Beech-Nuttagum Packing Company in 1899. In 1900, the company's sales were pretty good. Makers of Beech-nut patented the first vacuum jar with a design that included a Gasket and top that could remain intact so that it was spill proof.
During the first 25 years or so of the 20th century, the company expanded its product line into a multitude of products.
